ABOUT THE ARTIST

Discover the artist behind the sculptures

David Pacheco built his career within Disney as both an artist and animator. During the 1980s, his animation work included productions such as The Fox and the Hound, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and The Little Mermaid.

He later became a key creative figure within Disney Consumer Products, contributing his character-art expertise to numerous projects ranging from artwork and merchandise to collectibles.

His career eventually included the role of Director of Character Art, reflecting his long involvement in defining how Disney characters are represented beyond the animated screen.

Work for the Walt Disney Classics Collection

David Pacheco became closely associated with the Walt Disney Classics Collection as both an artist and creative contributor, bringing his extensive knowledge of Disney character design to collectible sculpture.

A particularly significant part of his WDCC work was the it's a small world collection, for which he created numerous children, animals and accompanying designs inspired by the classic Disney attraction.

His involvement with Walt Disney Art Classics also extended to concept and art direction. For the 2005 Spark of Imagination Figment sculpture, for example, Pacheco provided concept and art direction based on the original animation model sheet.

Beyond WDCC, Pacheco's Disney career has encompassed animation, character art, creative direction and consumer products, allowing his work to appear across many different forms of Disney art.

A little story behind the artist

David Pacheco worked on the original animation for Figment created for EPCOT's Journey into Imagination, which opened in 1983.

More than two decades later, he returned to the character as concept artist and art director for the WDCC Spark of Imagination sculpture, connecting two very different periods of his Disney career.
